PUMPKIN BUTTERMILK BISCUITS + BOURBON ORANGE BUTTER

I am fully aware how late I am with a gratuitous pumpkin recipe. SO LATE I KNOW, YOU GUYS.

But… my computer has been on the fritz for weeks and there were 5047 pies to make for Thanksgiving so I am asking for a pass, ok? Ok. Let’s stay friends at all costs even when I can’t get my life together enough to post a biscuit recipe on time.

And it’s still technically fall and still technically pumpkin everything season right? Humor me.

These biscuits are a riff on my regular buttermilk biscuits – tweaked a bit because it’s fall and because they are just gorgeous and because they will make your house smell like the best thing ever ever.

And let’s also discuss this other little gem I’m including in this here late recipe post. Bourbon orange butter. {this is not a drill}

Sometimes I embarrass myself with my reactions to food. And then if you take it even further and add Bourbon then I will most definitely lose all reasonable control. You understand, yes?

Biscuits are something you need to know how to make. This is a necessary skill even if you aren’t southern. Even if you are GF, Vegan, Paleo, Whatev. You need to have a go to biscuit recipe that you keep in your back pocket for when you’re feeling all cozy and domesticated. This, of course, is not your go-to biscuit recipe if you are GF/Vegan/Paleo… for that you’ll need to head over to the Minimalist Baker for The Best Damn Vegan Biscuits

This recipe is a simple buttermilk biscuit with the addition of pumpkin puree and some cinnamon to make it feel like all the best things about fall. YES LAWD. The butter is super simple… some good salted butter + orange zest + whatever bourbon you have on hand. If you don’t have Bourbon laying around I would say to just skip it. BUT I WON’T BECAUSE YOU NEED TO DRIVE TO THE ALPHABET STORE RIGHT THIS SECOND AND GET SOME BOURBON.

I kid. Kinda.

The key to good biscuits is a gentle hand. Don’t beat the shit out of them when you’re mixing… that makes sad little hockey pucks. What you want is nice little fluffy pillows that will make your eyes roll back in your head. Yes now we are talking.

Those layers are all the best things. {hyperbole awareness moment}

These went beautifully with a cup of Zola Cafe pour over. If you live in Wilmington and haven’t tried Cafe Zola over at Pomegranate Books you must go right now! I think I’ll give away TWO freshly roasted bags of beans because they are the BEST. This is not a sponsored post… I just love them {and YOU} enough to want to share. All you need to do is go over to the @saltandcharm Instagram feed, follow and tag a friend in the pumpkin biscuit post. I’ll send two winners a bag before Christmas! To increase your chance of winning, you can enter as many times as you want!

I also wanted to mention that the over-the-top gorgeous dough bowl that you see in this post is from Gathered Group. They have such lovely items for your home – I am OBSESSED with all the pretty things. You can check them out online or stop in to their Wilmington store if you are local. Be sure to follow them on the socials! (@gatheredgroup)

Spoiler alert! Tomorrow I will be sharing a recipe for a ridiculous sandwich made with these biscuits + country ham + greens + a quick blackberry balsamic jam! OMG.

I sure hope you will try these and let me know how it goes! Tag @saltandcharm on the socials if you do.

I sure do love you guys and hope you are having the best holiday season of your lives!
