SAUSAGE GRAVY FOR BISCUITS

Last week we talked about how to make the most perfect buttermilk biscuits. So this week we are going to talk about what to pour all over the top of them… of course!

Sausage gravy is one of the best weekend breakfast splurges I could ever possibly think of! It’s comforting and rich and so dang southern you’ll develop the loveliest drawl even if you’re a born and bred northerner.

Sausage gravy is so simple and pretty much every recipe you find is going to be similar. Cook some good sausage, add a sprinkle of flour and then pour some whole milk over it all. It will thicken up just fine and make everyone at your table happy.

However, if you want to take it up a few notches (and you absolutely should) this is what you should do!

In a heavy bottom sauce pan over medium heat, pour in the milk and then add a few sprigs of fresh time and a bay leaf. Allow the milk and herbs to come to a simmer (but don’t let it boil for heaven’s sake!). Turn off the heat and let it stand for about 10 minutes. Remove the herbs and discard then you’re ready to get started!

Brown some sausage, add some flour + then the infused milk. Then magic happens and you have the most lovely gravy. Sausage gravy is inherently salty so be careful with the seasoning!

The full recipe is in printable form below! I do hope you’ll make this and let us know when you do! Take a picture and tag us on the socials! (@saltandcharm)

Thanks for stopping by! I sure do love you all! (especially YOU!)

Matt Ray Photography took all of these gorgeous photos right before he ate his weight in biscuits and gravy. I don’t judge him at all for that.
