CHOCOLATE CAKE WITH MATCHA BUTTERCREAM

I was in the mood for a gorgeous cake. I was also in the mood for a boldly flavored cake. So when Tama Tea asked me to create a cake to highlight their Matcha Powder, I jumped at the chance and this beauty was born. I am OBSESSED with this cake, you guys. It’s beautiful, it’s over-the-top flavorful and perfect for the holidays!

BRAVE + PRACTICAL CO-PARENTING

Those are my babies up there. My beautiful, kind, smart and loving babies. I’m so proud of them. I snapped this iPhone picture in the car right after I picked them up from my former in-laws after my baby daddy got married to his lovely new wife. It was a weekend full of ALL the emotions for me. {every last one of them}

There was a finality about that weekend… a moving forward and embracing the new season that was handed to me by the universe. There was a heaping dose of joy and some pain mixed in for good measure. But at the core of it… for me… were these tiny humans. And they are the main reason that I have fought so hard to overcome my very real human tendencies so that I have a healthy relationship with their father and step-mom.

It has not been easy but it HAS been worth it, and we need to continue this conversation about brave co-parenting. {because to be successful at it, you MUST be the kind of brave that they write about in best-sellers}

PUMPKIN BUTTERMILK BISCUITS + BOURBON ORANGE BUTTER

These are a take on my regular biscuit recipe with the addition of pumpkin puree and some cinnamon to make it feel like all the best things about fall. YES LAWD. The butter is super simple… some good salted butter + orange zest + whatever bourbon you have on hand. If you don’t have Bourbon laying around I would say to just skip it. BUT I WON’T BECAUSE YOU NEED TO DRIVE TO THE ALPHABET STORE RIGHT THIS SECOND AND GET SOME BOURBON.

SOUP 101

It’s soup season, ya’ll! Fall is my absolute favorite time of year and soup is one of the reasons why. I make one big pot about once a week and eat on it for days. This vegetable soup is both comforting and crazy healthy. It’s chock full of vegetables and, let’s have an honest moment, we all need more of those in our lives.

JALAPENO CHEDDAR CORNBREAD MUFFINS

My southern-ness is showing here. Cornbread is one of my love languages. And when you add fresh corn, sharp cheese, spicy jalapenos and bacon grease then we just need to hold on a minutes and collect our thoughts. This may be too much. It may be pushing the limits a bit on acceptable food + human relationships.

But it’s absolutely worth it. I know this isn’t anything ground-breaking, but maybe it’s close enough to feed my tendencies for exaggeration. They really are so damn good, loves.
